The Andaman and Nicobar islands can be underrated at times. If you love clear waters, prestine beaches away from the crowds, this is the place to be.

We made a short 3-day trip to the Andamans in the first week of April. On the first day, we arrived by a early morning flight. After checking in to our hotel, we visited the famous Cellular jail, where Indian freedom fighters were kept by the British.

After that we drove along the Marine drive and stopped at the popular spot where Indian flag was hoisted by Subash Chandra Bose in 1943. Then we went to the Corbyns cove beach nearby. The highlight of the day was the light and sound show at the cellular jail – something not to be missed!

On the Second day, we took a ferry to the Havelock island. We visted the beautiful Kalapathar beach and later went to the vast Radhanagar beach. The island has a relaxed feel and also good for watersports and snorkling. Later in the evening, we took a 2-hour ferry back to Port Blair via Neil island.

On the Third day, we took a boat to Ross island – the former administrative capital of the British. The sight of deers and peacocks roaming freely is a sight to watch. The light house at the end of the island is beautiful.

Then, we took the boat to the North bay which is popular for snorkling. We boarded the Dolphin boat enabled us to see the coral reefs and also enjoy the beauty of the sorrounding areas.

Andaman and Nicobar islands has hundreds of islands but only a few is open for the public. If you are looking for a quick getaway from mainland India and if you love seafood and beaches, this is the place to be!

Our Tips:

  • Book the Ferry/Ship online at Book my Boat in advance as there is usually a rush.
  • Book the tickets online for Light and Sounds show in advance as there is a big rush.
  • It may be a good idea to book hotels in different islands to explore instead of commuting from Port Blair.
